Meet Witney Carson—born and raised in the small town American Fork, Utah, Emmy®-nominated choreographer Witney Carson’s dreams growing up were anything but small. As the oldest of four children, she took her first dance class at the age of 3 and danced her way through dozens upon dozens of classes, quickly developing her craft which would later become her career. She is trained in ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, lyrical, tap, Latin and standard ballroom; and has competed and performed all over the world, garnering attention, awards and scholarships throughout her career.
We sat down with her to chat about our new Witney Carson x JuJuBe collaboration, motherhood and more.
Q: What is your favorite thing about being a mom?
A: There are so many things I love about being a mom. I truly feel this is my most important role and job in life. I never knew what I was missing until Leo arrived, it’s been pure happiness! I love the struggles and triumphs and everything in between. There’s nothing like snuggling your baby and making him feel safe!
Q: What’s the most surprising thing about being a parent?
A: It’s definitely harder than I ever imagined. With that being said, I was surprised at how much I could love something so much. This little human is my whole world!
Q: What’s the one thing (besides diapers) that you always have in your diaper bag?
A: I always have water & Chapstick! Nursing/pumping can really take its toll lol! I never leave the house without it!
Q: What’s the strangest thing in your diaper bag?
A: It’s called the Windi. It’s a device where you stick it in babys bum to help them release gas! It’s weird but works amazing!
Q: Why did you choose to partner with JuJuBe?
A: I’ve been a big fan of JuJuBe even before I had a baby! I’ve always felt they had cute designs and prints but more importantly their bags are SMART! They are so perfectly designed, with every compartment you could ever need. Easy access and aesthetically pleasing to look at! The last thing we want to do while baby is screaming is be searching for something in our diaper bags!
Q: What’s your favorite thing about The Beyond Collection?
A: I looooove the material and the colors. They are so chic, beautiful, trendy and young, and so convenient. My husband can wear them and not feel like it’s too feminine! The compartments and the design is like nothing I’ve seen before. So beautifully organized and I know exactly where everything is. Everything has a spot!
Q: Which bag do you use the most?
A: I use the backpack the most! It’s so comfortable & my hubby likes it too :) the two pockets on the side are great for babys bottle and my water bottle. The front pocket is for my wallet, the magnetic slip is for my mask & phone, middle is for everything feeding (pumps, bottles, formula, burp cloths) back zipper is for diapers and wipes and the back tab is for my laptop! It’s a DREAM!
Q: What advice do you have for new parents?
A: I definitely don’t have it all together and learning as I go but I would say to stop putting the pressure on yourself! I’ve struggled with the mom guilt and still do but if I were to give any advice it’s to let that go and just enjoy every minute!!
Q: How old were you when you started dancing?
A: My mom put me in when I was three years old, and I started ballroom dancing when I was nine!
Q: What’s next for your dancing career?
A: As of now, I’m still planning on going back to DWTS in the fall. It’s my passion, I love it so much! We will see how it goes with a baby, wish me luck!
Q: Does your husband have any good dance moves?
A: He does have sooooo many good dance moves but he’d die before he showed anyone but me hahaha
Q: Does Leo’s name have any special significance
A: Yes, his full name is Kevin Leo McAllister after his grandpa who passed away. My husbands dad had pancreatic cancer two years ago and it sadly took his life. We’ve always loved Leo and after he died we knew our boys name had to be Leo after him! My husband’s name is also Kevin but goes by Carson so we kept the first name tradition!
